Description: |
Caused by parasitic worms called Schistosomes, it is common in the tropics where ponds, streams and canals harbour bilharzia-transmitting snails. Symptoms consist of a rash or itchy skin after a few days then a high temperature, chills, cough, and muscle aches can begin after 1-2 months of infection. The eggs travel to the liver or pass into the intestine or bladder and are passed out though the body in this way.
