Is a virus which affects nerves causing inflammation on the skin surface with eruption of small spots, sores. The virus can remain dormant in your body for a long time. There are two main types although there are eight which come under the medical remit of herpesvirus.
Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1)
Herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2)
Both can infect above or below the waist although it tends to be HSV1 above the waist and HSV2 below.
Herpes can be easily spread if there are open sores, sexual partners should be aware of risks and always use condoms to prevent infection of genital herpes.
