| Description: |
A tropical disease, this is due to a parasite Leishmania spp. This parasite can affect not only the skin but internal organs as well and is transmitted by sand flies that have bitten infected animals. The skin condition presents possibly weeks after you have been bitten with an occasionally painful sore possibly with a scab which develops edges with a crater in the middle. The internal affects can cause weight loss, enlarged spleen and liver with anaemia often months after the initial infection.
