This is an impairment of movement due to lack of development or damage sustained by the brain either in growth or infection during pregnancy, premature birth or complications at birth. There are three types:
- Spastic – muscles become rigid and the movement may be erratic
- Ataxic – balance, movement of limbs can be wobbly and speech can be impaired.
- Athetoid – uncontrolled movement of limbs.
