This is the deterioration of the macula (which is a small sensitive part of the retina responsible for detailed vision) it is a slow process and there are two forms:
- Wet – in this type the body tries to increase blood flow to the retina but these are fragile and bleed easily causing swellings and scar tissue.
- Dry – in this type the loss of vision is gradual.
