This refers to the disease which is carried by the fleas which live on rats. There are two types:
- Bubonic- This is contracted through the bite of an infected flea or through an open wound causing swollen lymph glands, buboes.
- Pneumonic – This is transmitted from person to person, symptoms include high temperature, chest pain and a cough with pneumonia following.
