| Description: |
Is a common lung disease of premature babies, it occurs in babies with incomplete lung development. The more premature the baby the greater chance there is of having RDS. The problem is due to insufficient surfactant (a material produced by the lung that spreads over the air sacs) In premature babies this is not functioning and it is necessary for oxygen to be transported around the body.
