| Description: |
It resembles conjunctivitis with symptoms of watery eyes, sensitivity to light, pain, swelling of the eyelids, It occurs where people live in overcrowded conditions with poor access to clean fresh water and health care. The disease is spread by contact and probably by flies who go from infected persons to person , the repeated infections eventually cause the eyelashes to turn inward and scratch the cornea( the transparent membrane covering the eye) when scarring is extensive it slowly and painfully leads to complete blindness.
