Infection occurs through accidental ingestion of eggs and is more common in warmer areas. It is a soil transmitted parasite which lives in the human large intestines it can cause symptoms such as stomach pains and blood in the diarrhoea if heavily infested.
If symptoms are severe it may cause the prolapse (slipping down) of the intestines.
