| Description: |
This is a type of meningitis which occurs in children and young adults. This is where a bleed occurs into adrenal glands (responsible for regulating the stress response) caused by fulminant meningococcemia. The symptoms comprise of a systemic (whole body) bacterial infection, low blood pressure which leads onto shock, the body then begins a process called DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation) where the blood begins to clot together throughout the body with widespread purpura ( the skin becomes blotchy) as bleeding occurs under the skin.It is a medical emergency and requires prompt treatment.
