Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy
(VRT) is a highly effective way to reduce or eliminate dizziness from labyrinthitis. VRT works by causing the brain to use already existing mechanisms to help you adapt and compensate. Your existing balance mechanisms may be sending out messages to your brain saying that you are off balance when you are not and the aim is to re-learn those receptors to acknowledge the new messages. The directed exercises are patient specific and are planned by a qualified practitioner. They will make an appointment with you assessing your balance and which specific exercises you need to do. You will need to do these exercises regularly to gain any benefit. It is often the case when you have a balance problem to adapt around the problem and not realise how self limiting the balance problem has affected your life. These exercises may bring on the dizzy feelings again, which you may not want, but ultimately it will be to your advantage.
